Am I a Candidate?
Though a lot of people would love to have this procedure, there are some qualifications needed before you can have it. These qualifications should be met to ensure a fast and safe recovery for the patient, and we’ll help you understand them when you visit us for your initial consultation.
Obese clients are advised to lose some weight and be close to their ideal body weight before pursuing liposuction. It is also not advised for those with clotting problems and other serious medical conditions, as well as expecting mothers. If this procedure isn’t right for you, we’ll guide you to one that is best suited to your needs and goals.
The Liposuction Experience
During the procedure, you will be given a mild sedative to keep you relaxed. You will be awake during the surgery, and you can communicate with your surgeon should you feel any discomfort. The first part of the surgery involves the administration of the anesthetic agent via a small needle. Once the local anesthesia has taken effect, the area to be treated will remain numb throughout the procedure so that you will not feel any discomfort. Should you feel anything, it is very important to tell us right away. We want you to be completely comfortable during liposuction surgery.
Next, Dr. Tirgari will insert the laser cannula into the subcutaneous layer of your skin, a few millimeters under the top layer. This enables the doctor to visualize the location of the laser instrument while he moves it back and forth, breaking up fatty deposits for easy removal. Once the laser touches the fat cells, the fat deposits will be melted into a liquefied form and will be suctioned out during the last step of your laser liposuction treatment. The instrument used to perform this procedure is very small, so your incision sites will heal on their own without any stitches or future scarring.
Recovery from Liposuction
Mild swelling on the treated area can be expected for one to two days. Your doctor will prescribe pain medications to minimize any potential discomfort. Most of our patients who had this surgery are able to get back to their work in a week or less.
After the procedure, you’ll be advised to get plenty of rest and have someone take care of you. You will be able to move and do all your chores within two days or so, and we’ll provide you with a recovery timeline that details your experience.
The results of the procedure will be visible right away and will continue to improve as days and weeks go on. Because we perform the advanced SmartLipo, you will recover quickly with no post-operative scarring or significant downtime.
