Types Of Chemical Peels
We Offer

All of our peels are Medical Grade Peel-based treatments. Generally, chemical peels vary in the degree of depth, meaning how deep the ingredients of a peel penetrate. The depth level of a chemical peel can vary from mild to mid to aggressive, depending on how severe a patient’s skin concerns are. The Platinum Peel is one of the most versatile and effective peels available on the market. Our medical grade peels include the following:

Salicylic Peel

This peel addresses various concerns and gently resurfaces the skin. It is often used to combat oily skin and clean out clogged pores. We often use this peel on our acne treatment patients who suffer from mild to moderate acne problems. This medical-grade peel is very effective because it has a much higher concentration of Salicylic Acid, about 10% to 30%, when compared to over-the-counter salicylic acid treatments, which have about 1% to 5% of the ingredient. If you suffer from acne and breakouts, this may be the right peel for you. Please contact us today to schedule a consultation.

Jessner Peel

The Jessner Peel is a medium-degree peel. It addresses mild to moderate hyperpigmentation and sun damage, as well as smooth lines and wrinkles. It is composed of salicylic acid (a beta hydroxyl acid), lactic acid (an alpha hydroxyl acid), and resorcinol, all of which brighten the sin and remove various concerns caused by environmental factors. The Jessner peel can also be used on the neck, chest, and hands to address age spots, brown spots and can be a very effective sun damage treatment.

TCA Peel

The TCA peel is a mid-level chemical peel that contains the same ingredients as the Jessner peel plus a number of other antioxidants. The main ingredient of a TCA peel is trichloroacetic acid. The TCA peel also has a higher concentration is ingredients, sometimes up to 40%. The TCA peel is generally used on patients who are concerned with severe skin damage, severe acne or wrinkles. This peel truly eliminates most of those concerns and provides even skin tone and texture. It treats the skin beyond its outermost layer, down to the deeper layers where damage has rooted itself. The TCA peel is among the most popular peels today.

Glycolic Acid Peel

Glycolic acid peels have been used for many years and are in the family of Alpha-Hydroxy acids, which nourish and tone the skin. They are derived from sugar cane and citrus fruits, which make them safe for all skin types. Unlike other peels, even at a higher strength, you can receive all of the benefits of a glycolic peel without actually peeling. This means nearly zero downtime for recovery. The peel removes the top layers of dead skin, promoting elastin and collagen production, and typically you will see results after just one peel. With multiple treatments, you can expect long-term improved skin texture and appearance to your skin.

Platinum Peel

There are many different types and strengths of medical-grade chemical peels. “Medical grade” refers to a chemical peel that typically has a higher concentration of beneficial chemicals than at-home, do-it-yourself products. Because of this, they are more effective for treating acne, wrinkles, discoloration and other skin disorders. This also means that they are only safely applied by trained professionals.

The VI Peel (VI = Vitality Institute) is certainly one of the more popular peels and is considered “gentle yet powerful.” While this is true, it is not tolerated by everyone. The Platinum Peel is gentler and has proven to be safer for all skin types, including those with melasma, in which gray to gray-brown patches appear on the skin, often during pregnancy. Because of this, it has been included in the protocols offered by Dr. Tirgari.

For prescription-grade skincare products, we are required to comply with appropriate federal rules and regulations. Our coordinator will contact you to screen for any contraindications and to fulfill your order. Thank you!

How Does A
Chemical Peel Work?

A chemical peel is composed of various ingredients that treat either the outermost layer of the skin or even deeper. Some chemical peels can go up to five layers deep. The skin comprises two major layers: the epidermis (outer layer) and the dermis (the second layer). Then there are several sub-layers. A chemical peel often lifts the outermost layer of the skin, where most of the damage resides, to that end revealing the new, fresh, glowing layer underneath.

A chemical peel treatment in San Diego lasts 30 to 40 minutes, during which the skin is cleansed, followed by the application of the peel. Once the peel is lifted, soothing moisturizers and sunblock are applied to protect the new skin.

Recovery After A
Chemical Peel

A chemical peel does not require any downtime. However, patients are advised to stay in or out of the sun for one to two days. Immediately after a peel the skin will feel hot and red, much like a sunburn. In the next one to two days, the outermost layer of the skin will peel and fall off naturally, revealing the new, healthy skin below.

It is very important to stay out of the sun, avoid applying chemicals to the face and not pulling on the skin that is peeling as this can cause scarring. The skin will peel on its own. After the peeling process, you are free to enjoy your healthy, new skin. But please continue protecting it with sunscreen, which is recommended each and every day. You will receive detailed aftercare instructions from our staff.
